Code of Conduct

We at GP Garments (Pvt) Ltd. are confident of our stakeholders’ commitment to engage in ethical business practices and to take a clear stand against any form of unethical or illegal practices. Hence, the Company conducts business in a manner that does not in any way compromise on ethical principles.

Our Code of Conduct binds us to the following specific minimum standards which we believe are essential to meeting these goals.

Customer and Supplier Practices

The Company shall

Not engage in any deceptive, unlawful or unethical customer practices. It maintains the highest standard of personal and professional conduct in dealing with customers and suppliers;

Encourage and promote the highest level of ethical and professional conduct within our profession;

Respect and pursue its customers’ and suppliers’ objectives in ways that are consistent with the public interest and fair to the stakeholders;

Continually keep its customers and suppliers informed of matters that may adversely affect our relationship with them and their ability to compete in the market place. It always communicates matters with customers and suppliers in a truthful and accurate manner, It avoids the intent and appearance of unethical or compromising practice in relationships, and actions; and

Recognise and discharge our responsibility to uphold all laws and regulations governing the policies and activities of its profession.

Competitors

The Company shall

Be courteous and professional in its dealing with other competitors in the industry; and

Respect the rights and interests of competitors, work with them for the advancement of all within the industry.

Products

The garments shall be produced as per the approved sample, quality level and price. The customer orders shall be delivered on time.

Employees

Health and Safety

The Company provides a safe, hygienic and healthy workplace setting and takes necessary steps to prevent accidents and injury arising out of, linked with or occurring in the course of work or as a result of the operation of Company facilities. The Company has systems to detect, avoid and respond to potential risks to the safety and health of all employees.

Hours of Work

Company employees do not work in excess of 60 hours per week including overtime hours allowed by the laws of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. Employees are allowed at least 24 consecutive hours of rest in every seven day work period.

Wages and Benefits

Company employees are paid timely at least the minimum wage required by the laws of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. and provided legally mandated benefits, including holidays and leaves and statutory severance when employment ends.

Overtime Compensation

In addition to their compensation for regular hours of work, employees shall be compensated for overtime hours at a premium rate as is legally required in the labour law.

Employment is Voluntary

There shall not be any use of forced labour, whether in the form of prison labour, bonded labour or otherwise.

Employees are aged 16 or Older

No person shall be employed at an age younger than 16. Employees under 18 are not employed in hazardous conditions.

Harassment or Abuse

Every employee shall be treated with respect and dignity. No employee shall be subject to any physical, sexual, psychological or verbal harassment or abuse.

Non-Discrimination

Employees of GP Garments are not subject to discrimination in employment, including during hiring, compensation, promotion or discipline, termination or retirement on the basis of gender, race, religion, age, disability, sexual orientation, pregnancy, marital status, nationality, political opinion, trade union affiliation, social or ethnic origin or any other status protected by the laws of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.

Maintain Social Dialog Practices

The Company maintains social dialogue practices of its employees in the Company.

Environmental Impact is Minimized

The company protects human health and the environment by meeting applicable regulatory requirements including air emissions, solid/hazardous waste and water discharge. The Company adopts reasonable measures to mitigate negative operational impacts on the environment and strives to continuously improve environmental performance.

The Code is Fully Implemented

As a condition of doing business, the Company shall implement and integrate this Code and applicable laws into its business and submit to verification and monitoring. The Company shall post this Code, in the language(s) of its employees.

In order to achieve these objectives, GP Garments has its very own training school designed to develop job skills as well as soft skills of our staff members. Job related training programmes such as the Supervisor Training Programmes conducted by Lecturers of the Clothing Industry Training Institute (CITI) and Leadership/Motivational Training Programs are organized throughout the year, so as to encourage employee motivation, creative thinking, personal growth and career development.

GP Garments strongly believes that extra-curricular activities go a long way in ensuring that our employees remain healthy, motivated and satisfied. We also believe that sports events, entertainment activities, cultural and religious ceremonies enhance team spirit and increase workplace cooperation. We organize weekly free doctor consultations and regular eye-care campaigns to ensure that all the employees are fit and healthy. Cricket, Badminton, Netball tournaments, dancing, drawing, poetry competitions, Pirith chanting are held annually to keep everyone encouraged and motivated.
